Role Summary
We seek experienced Senior Web & Video Player Engineers proficient in JavaScript and web video playback. The role involves developing seamless, high-performance streaming experiences for web and Connected TV (CTV) platforms, including devices like Chromecast, Xbox, Samsung Tizen, LG, Vizio, and Comcast boxes. Successful candidates will take ownership of playback quality across the entire stack and engage closely with product and engineering teams to deliver dependable video solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and deliver video player features compatible with web and multiple CTV platforms.
- Develop and enhance video player modules using streaming frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka.
- Identify and resolve playback issues including rebuffering delays, latency, and challenges specific to live streaming scenarios.
- Analyze quality of experience (QoE) and performance metrics to troubleshoot and optimize playback performance in real-world conditions.
- Contribute to React Native-based player implementations for CTV and multi-device integration.
- Create automated tests (unit and end-to-end) and consume RESTful APIs to facilitate reliable streaming capabilities.
- Collaborate within cross-functional agile teams to produce software releases promptly.
- Document technical specifications clearly to support playback feature development and maintenance.
Essential Qualifications
- Over seven years of professional web development, emphasizing advanced JavaScript and web video playback technologies.
- Demonstrated success in building, sustaining, and fine-tuning video players and live streaming components across web and CTV environments.
- Proficiency in prominent streaming frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka, including configuring and debugging live stream playback behavior.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot and enhance playback performance factors like rebuffering frequency, startup latency, and overall playback stability.
- Understanding of video streaming protocols, live playback mechanisms (latency, live edge, drift), adaptive bitrate (ABR) logic, and digital rights management (DRM) integration.
- Fluent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Capability to function independently while thriving in a fast-moving remote work setting.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with video quality of experience (QoE) analytics, ABR optimization algorithms, and analytics tools such as Conviva or Segment.
- Exposure to Kepler or VegaOS development platforms.
- Experience with Node.js or backend service integrations related to video streaming.
- Background working within large-scale live sports streaming environments.
- Willingness to accommodate flexible working hours to align with teams distributed in various time zones.
