Team and Role Overview
The team primarily focuses on customer-facing features enhancing user experience such as content discovery, search, Roku Pay, subscriptions, embedded software, and firmware. Developers here act as owners—motivated to solve and deliver critical features while collaborating broadly with design, product, and business teams. This role involves innovating for streaming media and enhancing Roku’s embedded platform.
The Senior Software Engineer will drive embedded UI development, implement algorithms for improved user intuition, and shape the underlying architecture. Collaboration with product management is critical to support new or extended features, especially for international markets. The role requires strong development skills in modern C++ frameworks, scripting languages, and third-party code integration. Additionally, tool development supporting the broader Roku developer community is expected. A proven record of delivering embedded software is essential. Your contributions will directly affect millions of users worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop core functionalities for the Roku Channel app and Roku OS.
- Collaborate closely with Product Development, UI/UX design, Platform Services, and Release Management to develop quality applications.
- Investigate, diagnose, and solve software issues efficiently.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency in embedded C++ software development.
- Experience with UI application development using common frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of TypeScript programming.
- Ability to write thorough functional integration and unit tests.
- Solid understanding of core operating system concepts such as memory management and multithreading.
- Experience in designing APIs with awareness of architectural considerations and trade-offs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for cross-team collaboration.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related disciplines (MS3 level).
- Prior work experience in consumer electronics, particularly in Media/Content or Advertising products, is advantageous.
- Experience in streaming technologies is a plus.
