Role Overview

The Contacts team at Wise is a pivotal group responsible for ensuring seamless addition, discovery, and management of recipients. They oversee this full experience, which includes a scalable platform handling tens of millions of bank accounts, intelligent search algorithms, local integration technologies (such as Pix), and the user interfaces where customers interact with their contacts. This team is critical to the daily functioning of Wise, as any downtime directly affects the company’s operations.

Work Methodology

The team operates using agile principles, emphasizing close collaboration between engineers, product designers, managers, and analysts. The team is split between Wise’s offices in Tallinn and London.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate as part of an autonomous unit shaping the backend technical vision that supports recipient user experiences.
• Contribute to scaling and enhancing a world-class recipient management product.

Candidate Profile

• Experience with large-scale distributed systems.
• Proficient in Java 8+ programming.
• Skilled in working with both relational and non-relational databases, including query optimization and schema design.
• A strong product perspective with a focus on customer experience, using data-driven approaches to address user challenges.
• Enjoys collaborative problem-solving and bringing teams together.
• Expertise in designing, deploying, and maintaining clean RESTful APIs.
• Commitment to best coding standards, code reviews, and open feedback culture.
• Advocacy for testable code and Test Driven Development methods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using Spring Boot framework.
• Familiarity with Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) architectures.
