Team Overview
The Core Scribd team manages the reading experience and revenue-driving components, particularly focusing on the Doc Page. They operate in cross-functional squads collaborating closely with engineering, design, and product management to deliver impactful solutions including a new Design System.
Role Summary
We are looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to develop the next generation of web product features. The position involves collaboration with ML/AI and backend teams to create AI-enhanced user experiences and maintain architectural standards vital to production systems.
Responsibilities and Requirements
- Own and manage frontend systems lifecycle with strong responsibility for design and evolution.
- Apply systems thinking to architect scalable frontend solutions.
- Balance ideal solutions with practical, incremental modernization efforts.
- Collaborate effectively with product, platform, and backend teams.
- Maintain a long-term view of system maintainability, extensibility, and developer experience.
- Bring 6+ years of professional experience in frontend software engineering.
- Demonstrate proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and modern web frameworks such as Next.js.
- Experience with Microfrontend architectures, monorepos, or shared frontend platforms is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of web performance optimization and bundling techniques.
- Comfort working with high-traffic, high-impact systems and shared codebases.
- Excellent communication skills in a remote and documentation-driven environment.
- Collaborate closely to deliver end-to-end features.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large, complex, or legacy frontend codebases and modernization projects.
- Focus on frontend architecture as a product supporting other engineers.
- Prioritize performance, accessibility, SEO, quality, and observability.
- Commitment to testing and quality assurance for safe migrations.
- Passion for reducing complexity and improving systems.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is determined within a range specific to role, level, and location, considering experience and qualifications. In Canada, the salary range is approximately CAD 157,500 to CAD 201,000. This role includes competitive equity ownership and a comprehensive benefits package.
Location Requirements
Applicants must reside near one of Scribd's approved cities in the US, Canada, or Mexico, including Vancouver, BC.
