Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join Betashares Direct in Melbourne. This role involves engineering reliable and scalable software systems with a strong emphasis on automation, software engineering best practices, and continuous delivery. The ideal candidate will focus on making platforms more resilient while facilitating rapid and safe software deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance dependable, scalable, and maintainable systems for Betashares Direct.
• Create software tools and automation that minimize manual operational tasks and boost engineering efficiency.
• Enhance the robustness, resilience, and observability of AWS-hosted applications and services.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to design systems capable of safe deployment and scalable operation.
• Refine deployment, release, and operational workflows to enable swift delivery without sacrificing reliability standards.
• Analyze and resolve frequent reliability concerns through engineering and automation rather than manual intervention.
• Participate in incident management and apply lessons learned to improve engineering practices permanently.
• Help establish and evolve effective reliability metrics, engineering guidelines, and operational procedures.
• Offer senior-level technical judgment balancing reliability, system complexity, delivery pace, and operational risks.

Required Skills and Experience

• Extensive professional software engineering experience involving development, testing, and deployment of production software.
• Practical hands-on background in Site Reliability, Platform, or Production Engineering roles.
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing production systems using AWS.
• Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code, automation tools, and modern CI/CD and deployment methodologies.
• Experience deploying observability, monitoring, and alerting frameworks for complex distributed systems, including applying service-level indicators for reliability improvement.
• Expertise in applying software engineering approaches to solve reliability and operations challenges, including automating repetitive tasks and addressing systemic problems.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience supporting high-availability digital products.
• Background in financial services, fintech, or regulated technological settings.
• Familiarity with agentic AI engineering concepts.
