Carbonix is a top Australian manufacturer and operator of long-range RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) platforms tailored for enterprise and government sectors. The company specializes in Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone operations, delivering sophisticated aerial surveying and inspection solutions.
Role Summary
We are looking for a Senior Remote Pilot with deep technical expertise and strong operational discipline to join our operations team. This position focuses on managing complex BVLOS missions with advanced RPAS platforms. The Senior Pilot will also assist the Chief Remote Pilot (CRP) by undertaking delegated duties related to safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate fixed-wing BVLOS missions using Carbonix RPAS platforms.
- Lead mission planning, perform risk assessments, and execute long-range survey assignments.
- Assist the CRP in managing safety systems, conducting safety assessments, and ensuring operational compliance.
- Maintain adherence to Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations, company Remote Operator's Certificate (ReOC) requirements, and safety management practices.
- Contribute to the creation and review of BVLOS Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) applications and operational safety cases.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior pilots and help develop standard operating procedures and training content.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on system integration, testing, and performance evaluations.
- Travel domestically across Australia for flight operations and client engagements, with possible international assignments.
Candidate Profile
- Hold a CASA Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) with Powered Lift category endorsement for platforms under 25kg.
- Experience piloting medium-category powered-lift drones (under 150kg).
- A minimum of 5 years' experience operating RPA, with at least 2 years specializing in EVLOS/BVLOS and powered-lift systems.
- Proven background in BVLOS operations, including OCTA BVLOS and operations within a Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) environment.
- Pass the CASA OCTA BVLOS examination.
- Skilled in mission planning software, GIS applications, and computer-aided workflows.
- Outstanding operational discipline with competence in risk-informed decision-making.
- Willingness to travel frequently for work duties.
- Valid Australian driver's licence and working rights.
- Accumulated over 200 flight hours on powered-lift or fixed-wing aircraft platforms, including extensive BVLOS missions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience assisting in or drafting BVLOS SORA applications.
- Familiarity with autopilot systems such as Ardupilot.
- Proven expertise in planning and conducting LiDAR and photogrammetry surveys.
- Current or previous crewed fixed-wing pilot licence.
- Successfully passed the Instrument Rating Exam (IREX).
