This role centers on Electrical Substation engineering, requiring precise attention to detail and proficiency in preparing technical documentation and diagrams. You will lead the design efforts for Primary Equipment, Protection and Control systems, along with auxiliary systems at both Transmission and Distribution levels. Recognized internally for your technical expertise and timely project delivery, you should be capable of managing complete project packages covering both Primary and Secondary Substation engineering disciplines.

The position offers a hybrid working arrangement with three days per week at the Dublin office.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead engineering development ensuring comprehensive and multidisciplinary information integration and pioneer the creation of new solutions for complex challenges.
• Manage and complete all engineering activities for assigned projects, coordinate multiple engineering disciplines, and provide technical assistance for testing, installation, and commissioning tasks. Potentially serve as the design authority for Primary or Secondary engineering disciplines.
• Handle project management tasks by preparing thorough project documentation, ensuring delivery of cost-effective quality solutions within budget and contractual commitments, enforcing safety standards, assessing risks, and developing work plans and cost estimations. Review and approve project scope, budget, and schedule.
• Design, review, and approve Protection and Control (P&C) schemes adhering to standards including ISO 9001, TPs, NGTs, ESIs, British Standards, and IEC standards.
• Provide technical support and develop Work Breakdown Structures for tender submissions.
• Maintain alignment with project timelines and provide regular progress updates.
• Support project delivery by contributing to Design Intent Documents, technical specifications for plant and P&C equipment, schematic diagrams, LVAC and battery sizing, cable sizing and settings, and approve work documents such as cable schedules and core sheets.
• For BIM projects, take on roles such as Task Information Manager, Task Team Interface Manager, or Task Team Manager as outlined in the BIM manual.
• Confidently engage with clients, lead client meetings, and ensure delivery of technically sound engineering designs and consultancy services.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a minimum BEng (honours) degree in a relevant engineering field with at least five years of applicable experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in Transmission or Distribution systems ranging from 11 kV to 220 kV.
• Experience in Primary substation yard/equipment and/or Secondary protection and control systems.
• Strong teamwork, analytical capabilities, and communication skills.
• Ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines and high-pressure conditions.
• Proficient with Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and AutoCAD software.
• Solid understanding of engineering processes, techniques, and tools.
• Committed to safe work practices with a proactive learning attitude toward new technologies.
• Familiarity with standards and drawing practices of Distribution Network Operators and National Grid.
• Experienced in mentoring and reviewing work of team members.
