Job description
About the Role
NVIDIA is seeking a seasoned Senior Network Engineer to join its Global Backbone Engineering team. This team is integral to operating NVIDIA's DGX Cloud — a distributed AI-training and research platform. The role involves designing, scaling, and maintaining the long-haul, high-capacity network infrastructure that links NVIDIA's AI facilities with cloud providers. Responsibilities focus on engineering optimal fiber routes, intelligent traffic management, and state-of-the-art networking technologies to support high-demand AI workloads in a global environment.
The objective is to develop and sustain a dependable, scalable, and efficient backbone that connects NVIDIA's worldwide data centers, office locations, and cloud platforms. This essential network supports AI training clusters, GPU computing resources, and software development efforts at peak performance levels internationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and design of NVIDIA's global backbone network including data center interconnections, POP architectural design, long-distance optical transport, and peering strategies.
- Oversee deployment, management, and troubleshooting across the entire backbone network stack, from optical layers to IP/MPLS and traffic engineering.
- Automate backbone network operations comprehensively, covering aspects such as circuit provisioning, capacity oversight, monitoring, and fault detection.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Expertise in backbone and WAN networking technologies and protocols such as MPLS, SR-MPLS, BGP-LU, RSVP-TE, IS-IS, OSPF, MP-BGP, BFD, QoS, MACsec, and IPFIX/NetFlow.
- Practical experience with backbone optical transport technologies including DWDM, coherent optics, passive/active optical networks, OTN, and 400G/800G long-haul circuits.
- In-depth knowledge of peering, internet exchanges, PNI, transit provider relations, IXP connectivity, and scalable BGP policy and traffic management.
- Proficiency in Python and Shell scripting for automation, tool creation, capacity planning, and network alerting.
- Familiarity with carrier-grade routing platforms such as Juniper MX/PTX, Cisco ASR/NCS, or equivalent.
- Proven track record building and maintaining a global backbone or WAN network that spans continents and supports thousands of devices and millions of data flows.
- Experience optimizing high-performance networks operating across multiple sites internationally, with excellent communication and presentation capabilities.
- At least 8 years of network engineering experience centered on backbone/WAN or carrier-grade network environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
Distinguishing Qualifications
- Hands-on creation of automation tools for backbone provisioning, real-time monitoring, and capacity management.
- Experience working at hyperscale or major ISP/carrier environments, including expertise in traffic engineering and ECMP optimization across global points of presence.
- Interest in pioneering advances in networking such as segment routing, intent-based networking, and AI operations for network management.
