Job description
About Khana Capital
Khana Capital is a supply chain and purchase order financing firm authorized by NBFIRA, located in Gaborone. We offer working capital solutions to suppliers serving reputable corporate and government customers. Our digital platform, Swiftly Finance, automates early payments to suppliers. As we expand our loan portfolio and promote the platform, we seek a dedicated Senior Finance Officer to ensure financial integrity and operational discipline within the organization.
Role Purpose
The Senior Finance Officer serves as the core financial and operational support within Khana Capital. This role is responsible for managing financial data, enforcing operational procedures, and overseeing cash, credit, and policy management to meet the rigorous demands of a lending business. The position reports directly to the Managing Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and uphold internal policies and operational standards across Khana Capital and Swiftly Finance by translating procedures into daily routines, ensuring all team members understand expectations, and addressing performance lapses promptly with the Managing Director's support.
- Manage the loan portfolio, conducting detailed risk analyses by facility and borrower, calculating accurate loss provisions, and compiling monthly reports for the Managing Director covering growth, risk concentration, collections, and yield trends. Identify and promptly report early warning signs linked to payment behaviors.
- Control cash and credit operations by monitoring cash balances, conducting bank reconciliations, approving payments, separating duties within the credit process to prevent conflicts of interest, validating drawdowns against commitments, and ensuring proper documentation of advances.
- Produce timely, precise monthly financial statements and balance sheets for management review, reconcile all balance sheet ledgers, separate business from personal expenditures, prepare error-free statutory returns for NBFIRA and other regulators, and maintain audit-ready books to facilitate external reviews.
- Collaborate with collections and field teams to support debtor follow-ups, align collection strategies with credit decisions, analyze borrower yield issues, generate collections performance reports, and infuse financial rigor into operational choices.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Experience in credit or lending functions within banks, microfinance institutions, or equivalent entities, including expertise in realized yield analysis, loan aging, loss provisioning, and credit risk assessment.
- Proficiency in financial reporting and accounting management, capable of handling full finance function operations, producing reliable financial statements and management accounts, and performing thorough reconciliations with audit readiness.
- Strong systems and process discipline, with the ability to document decisions meticulously, create and follow checklists, work efficiently with accounting software, and enhance existing systems without cutting corners.
- Problem-solving capabilities under uncertainty, comfortable making decisions with partial data and adapting as new information emerges, transparently addressing issues, and recommending solutions.
- Leadership skills in managing and developing team members at all levels, setting and communicating clear expectations, providing timely feedback to resolve performance challenges, delegating effectively while maintaining oversight, and fostering a collaborative, trustworthy work environment.
Desirable Experience
- Background in supply chain or trade financing.
- Knowledge of NBFIRA regulatory reporting and compliance.
- Experience working in growth-stage fintech or digital finance sectors.
Personal Attributes
- Determined and consistent in enforcing policies fairly and holding colleagues accountable.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a strong resolve to complete tasks thoroughly.
- Sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive financial information.
- Clear and direct communication with the Managing Director and the wider team.
