Opportunity Overview
We are expanding our presence in Tauranga and seeking a Senior Engineering Geologist or Senior Geotechnical Engineer with expertise in geotechnical asset management to join our team. This role offers diverse daily challenges and requires applying comprehensive technical knowledge to deliver high-quality projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize engineering expertise and judgment to strategically plan and execute projects effectively.
- Prepare detailed plans, technical reports, proposals, and specifications tailored to client needs.
- Conduct desk-based assessments including analyzing aerial photographs, reviewing published data, and guiding project investigations and design.
- Oversee and organize field investigations, managing drilling crews and coordinating laboratory testing to enhance site understanding and hazard evaluations.
- Lead fieldwork activities such as site mapping, directing drilling operations, logging boreholes, collecting samples, and monitoring using techniques like hand augering and test pits logging.
- Create two-dimensional and three-dimensional ground models with existing data to identify problems and support design processes.
- Perform computer-aided analyses such as slope stability modeling to evaluate data comprehensively.
- Conduct field reconnaissance of natural hazard sites through routine inspections or responses to incidents, offering expert advice and remediation design solutions collaboratively with clients.
- Communicate technical findings clearly through written documentation and oral presentations.
- Manage projects from start to finish, effectively scoping, planning, and allocating resources to meet timelines and budgets.
- Lead cross-disciplinary teams, coordinating multiple work packages successfully.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships internally and externally, contributing to business development efforts alongside senior management.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Engineering Geologist—preferably possessing a relevant postgraduate qualification—or a Geotechnical Engineer with demonstrable experience in consulting or contracting environments. A strong technical foundation combined with sound engineering judgment and a proactive problem-solving mindset is essential. The candidate should be inquisitive and commercially astute, capable of approaching challenges from multiple angles and converting technical information into client-oriented solutions.
