Senior Education Advisor

About the Role

This is a full-time, permanent position located in Kerikeri or Kaitaia, Te Tai Tokerau, New Zealand. As a Senior Education Advisor, you will collaborate closely with tumuaki, senior school leaders, and Boards of Trustees to enhance educational outcomes in schools and kura. Your role will involve ensuring sector leaders and their communities have access to the expertise and resources needed to enable children and young people to achieve their full potential. You will operate within the Ministry of Education's regional team, utilizing student achievement data and evidence to design and implement projects that improve school performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Support senior school leaders and Boards of Trustees in improving educational performance.
• Collaborate with sector leaders and communities to provide appropriate programmes and resources.
• Analyze student achievement data to identify needs and priorities.
• Design and execute projects to strengthen educational outcomes in schools and kura.
• Work as an integral member of the Ministry’s regional team.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a relevant tertiary qualification or comparable practical experience.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills to interpret student achievement data.
• Proven experience in project development and implementation.
• Exhibit ability to build and maintain effective relationships within and outside the Ministry.
• Understand New Zealand's education system and relevant legislation.
• Have knowledge of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.
• Experience contributing to student achievement in both English and Māori-medium education settings.
• Understand factors affecting learner achievement and participation.
• Be familiar with National Education and Learner Priorities (NELP), Ka Hikitia, Action Plan for Pacific Education, Success for All, and their implications.
• Capable of applying principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, able to work across diverse settings.
• Hold a current full driver’s licence.
• Commit to upholding Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

About the Education Services Group

The Group delivers integrated education services to support the successful operation of educational settings toward better student achievement and participation. It focuses on removing participation barriers and provides regulatory advice and oversight to early learning providers, schools, and kura.

Its three main priorities are:

• Practice & Guidance: Manage practice and guidance to ensure national consistency while allowing regional autonomy in service delivery.
• Integration & Delivery: Provide education support directly to settings through integrated regional and national services, including intervention to maintain high operational standards and building key stakeholder relationships to enhance schooling and learner outcomes.
• Monitoring & Improvement: Monitor and advise on service effectiveness, efficiency, and equity regarding achievement, progression, attendance, and participation. Monitor provider compliance and intervene as necessary.

Compensation

The salary ranges from $86,225 to $104,071 per annum plus KiwiSaver contributions. The final salary will be based on individual qualifications and experience.
