Role Overview
We have an excellent permanent full-time role based in our Palmerston North laboratory for a Section Leader to manage and oversee the Molecular/Serology division. This position entails 80 hours per fortnight and involves ensuring the efficient operation of Molecular and Serology testing processes while offering strong leadership and support to your team. Acting as a critical support resource to the Laboratory Manager and broader team, you will help maintain effective section management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the daily functions of the Molecular/Serology section to guarantee accurate and streamlined laboratory procedures.
- Lead and mentor team members, delivering training and fostering a supportive, collaborative work culture.
- Ensure diagnostic precision, laboratory quality, and safety protocols are upheld rigorously according to established standards.
- Identify and assist in implementing improvements to workflows, operational efficiencies, and service quality.
- Engage in clear communication with colleagues regarding samples and workflow issues and contribute to administrative and reporting operations.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in a leadership role capable of supervising, mentoring, and cultivating a successful team.
- Self-driven with strong discipline and dedication to maintaining high diagnostic accuracy and quality.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively across all organizational levels and promote a positive team environment.
- Strong organizational, time-management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills within a fast-paced diagnostic lab context.
- Professional demeanor and familiarity with laboratory information systems and common computer software.
- Experience in laboratory administration tasks such as reporting, rostering, or inventory control is beneficial but not mandatory.
