Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Roads Design Engineer based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to join our team operating within a Project Management Office (PMO). This role involves contributing to significant highway and infrastructure initiatives across Riyadh city.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate road and highway design documents crafted by external designers at concept and detailed stages with a focus on integration with structural, drainage, utility, traffic, and other related engineering disciplines.
- Generate and assess conceptual road, junction, and interchange designs, providing layout alternatives and geometric solutions to aid PMO and client decision-making.
- Participate in value engineering exercises to identify optimization opportunities in geometry, pavement strategies, and safety aspects, ensuring compliance with standards and project targets.
- Create engineering illustrations, sketches, and exhibits that explain design concepts, value enhancements, and clarifications.
- Review pavement design and road safety elements from third parties, validating their technical soundness and adherence to best practices and standards.
- Analyze third-party design submissions, supplier drawings, and technical documentation and prepare comprehensive technical feedback for approval processes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including bridges, drainage, utilities, traffic, and landscape architecture to resolve design issues and develop integrated solutions.
- Deliver presentations on complex highway and interchange designs to internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Support risk assessments, constructability reviews, and phasing plans for major road and interchange projects.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- At least 10 years of professional experience in road and highway design, with specific expertise in major highways and interchange projects.
- Strong background in geometric road design, including horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-section analysis, and junction layouts per international and local standards.
- Proven capability in critically reviewing designs from consultants and providing structured, technically rigorous commentary.
- Working knowledge of pavement engineering and road safety principles, able to assess and improve third-party design proposals.
- Experience supporting concept development and value engineering activities on highway projects.
- Proficiency in working within cross-disciplinary teams and coordinating effectively amongst multiple engineering disciplines.
- Result-oriented and collaborative mindset willing to engage fully with PMO workflows.
- Strong communication and presentation skills suited to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Skills and Credentials
- Previous roles in design consultancy or Project Management Consultancy/Management Office (PMC/PMO) environments.
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent qualification with a recognized engineering authority.
- Competence in road design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, InRoads, or related tools for drafting and concept visualization.
- Experience attending and contributing to design review workshops, value engineering sessions, or technical coordination meetings for significant infrastructure projects.
