Job Overview
The Liberty County Board of Commissioners invites applications for a full-time Road Maintenance Worker to become an integral member of their Road Department. This position is essential for ensuring community safety by maintaining and enhancing county roads and drainage systems. The role requires a dependable individual who prioritizes safety and takes pride in practical, hands-on work that impacts public welfare daily.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out fundamental tasks related to road repair and upkeep.
- Operate tractors, trimmers, and edgers for grass cutting and tree trimming.
- Clear trash and debris from roadways to maintain clean and safe routes.
- Support installation and repair activities for pipes and drainage structures.
- Manage traffic control and flagging duties in accordance with safety regulations at work zones.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Repair and clean road signs to ensure visibility and effectiveness.
- Retrieve parts and supplies as necessary for ongoing projects.
- Assist with transporting voting machines to precincts during election periods.
- Execute other related tasks as assigned to support the Road Department.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
- Understanding of safety protocols and regulatory compliance for work zones.
- Knowledge of appropriate placement for guide signs to direct traffic.
- Familiarity with various road maintenance and repair methods.
Essential Skills
- Competent in operating diverse vehicles and maintenance equipment.
- Expertise in traffic flagging and establishing secure work areas.
- Proficient use of hand and power tools.
- Effective oral and written communication capabilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills for teamwork and interaction.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Regularly involved in activities requiring sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping.
- Frequently lifts light items and occasionally heavier objects while using tools demanding fine motor skills and sensory awareness.
- Work conditions include noisy outdoor environments, exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, grease, and machinery with moving parts.
- Use of protective gear such as masks, goggles, and gloves is mandatory for safety.
Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent certification is required.
- Preference is given to candidates with over six months of relevant experience.
- A valid Georgia Class C driver's license with a suitable driving record is mandatory.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers an initial yearly salary of $38,771 (Pay Grade 10A), equating to $18.64 per hour. Working hours are generally from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
