Job description

Overview

The Return to Work Specialist at US Foods coordinates ADA accommodations and return-to-work initiatives as the central contact for employees, managers, and HR partners. This role is responsible for efficient case handling, compliance with relevant laws, and facilitating the successful reintegration of employees back into their roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the interactive accommodation process in alignment with federal and state ADA regulations.
  • Analyze medical documentation related to ADA accommodations.
  • Draft formal letters to employees regarding accommodation determinations.
  • Accurately document all case details including discussions and decisions within the leave management system to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with managers and HR to plan return-to-work strategies and ADA accommodations.
  • Correspond with medical professionals to request additional or clarified information pertinent to accommodation cases.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with employees, managers, and HR on case progress and status updates.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of accommodations post-implementation.
  • Engage legal counsel on complex cases involving undue hardship analyses.
  • Collect and track Work Status Notices from clinics and employees, updating managers, HR, and third-party examiners regarding any changes.
  • Partner with onsite managers and HR to manage transitional duty assignments and return-to-work plans.
  • Monitor the success and compliance of transitional duty duties.
  • Perform additional tasks as delegated by management.

Interdepartmental Relationships

  • Collaborate internally with Regional HR Business Leaders, Area HR Directors, Legal, Risk Management, Safety teams, frontline supervisors, and employees.
  • Coordinate externally with third-party vendors and HR managed service providers.

Work Environment

This position is fully remote, requiring the specialist to fulfill responsibilities from a home-based setup.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years' experience in human resources or leave management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of leave-related laws and regulations including FMLA, ADA, PWFA, and Workers' Compensation.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, customer service, and communication skills, with strong independent work capability and effective time management.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Leave Management Specialist (CLMS).
  • Experience utilizing Workday and absence management systems.
  • Background in call center operations.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers a salary range from $60,000 to $95,000 annually, depending on experience, education, skills, job function, and location. Additionally, annual incentive bonuses are available. Benefits may include health insurance, pre-tax spending accounts, retirement plans, paid leave, disability coverage, employee stock purchase options, and life insurance.
