Job description
Role Overview
The Reporter will be based full-time on-site at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital located in Mutai, responsible for chronicling and communicating essential happenings, events, and developments within the hospital environment.
Primary Duties
- Collect information from hospital staff and various departments.
- Conduct interviews to gather detailed insights.
- Produce well-structured, clear written reports, news stories, and updates aimed at both internal stakeholders and external audiences.
- Cover hospital initiatives, community outreach programs, and health campaigns.
- Create multimedia elements such as photographs or brief videos to accompany news articles.
- Work closely with hospital management, clinical teams, and communications personnel to ensure accuracy, relevance, and policy adherence in all publications.
- Comply with ethical guidelines, uphold patient confidentiality, and exhibit sensitivity when reporting on health-related topics.
Qualifications and Expectations
- Proven ability in reporting, including gathering information, interviewing, and verifying facts.
- Excellent communication and writing skills capable of producing concise and clear news content.
- Experience in crafting news reports and tailoring stories for varied audiences.
- Basic proficiency in multimedia handling—images, video clips, and audio support.
- Relevant academic background in journalism, communications, media studies, or related disciplines.
- Capacity to perform under pressure in a dynamic hospital setting, juggling multiple assignments and meeting deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills fostering effective collaboration across diverse teams.
- Firm understanding of ethical journalism, confidentiality, and respect toward patients and hospital staff.
