About the Company and Role
Located in Mangere Bridge, Auckland, Oji Fibre Solutions is a top-tier New Zealand manufacturer and supplier of packaging solutions serving various industries including food, primary produce, industrial, and grocery sectors. Operating from the Corrugated Case division, we specialize in innovative and premium cardboard packaging for markets such as dairy, horticulture, and food manufacturing.
This role offers significant potential for the successful candidate to shape its scope and explore leadership growth opportunities. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you will collaborate closely with production and cross-functional teams. The fast-paced manufacturing environment requires flexibility, with occasional weekend work and call outs.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance plant reliability by analyzing current maintenance outcomes and ensuring precise execution of preventative and predictive maintenance plans.
- Minimize unplanned downtime, shorten equipment recovery periods, and extend the lifespan of manufacturing machinery by optimizing reliability-centered maintenance programs, collecting data, and conducting thorough risk-based inspections.
- Address significant breakdowns and productivity obstacles using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and other team problem-solving techniques.
- Promote and train maintenance and production teams in Reliability Engineering methods.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in partnership with the maintenance team to upgrade existing equipment and manufacturing processes.
- Identify and mitigate factors obstructing engineering performance enhancements.
- Manage productive relationships with suppliers and contractors.
- Support and uphold the Health & Safety culture within the engineering and production teams.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in a Reliability Engineering role with a track record of delivering successful projects.
- Proven expertise in managing and boosting machinery reliability within a modern, high-speed manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulic systems combined with sound engineering methodologies.
- Strong commitment to health and safety practices, including familiarity with permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and machine guarding.
- Capable of facilitating RCA workshops involving cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues.
- Possession of an Advanced Trade Certification and/or New Zealand Certificate in Engineering (NZCE) or a relevant Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree.
- Formal training in Lean manufacturing principles is advantageous.
- In-depth understanding of RCA best practices.
- Experience managing projects and total preventative maintenance programs.
- Familiar with using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as MEX or SAP.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
