Job description
About Resaro
Resaro is an independent AI assurance company focused on enabling enterprises and public sector organizations to deploy reliable and trustworthy AI systems. We specialize in a spectrum of AI technologies including computer vision, generative AI, large language models, vision-language models, as well as pioneering work on agentic and autonomous AI systems. Our flagship product, the Approved Intelligence Platform (AIP), allows clients to upload datasets, register AI models, perform rigorous evaluations, and generate reliable, defensible reports to support AI deployment decisions.
Role Overview
We seek a hands-on R&D Engineering Manager to lead our AI evaluation team. This role centers on cultivating a high-performing group of engineers and scientists, while maintaining significant technical expertise to guide system architecture and design. The successful candidate will elevate AI/ML engineering practices and liaise across teams to synchronize technical approaches and resolve dependencies. Collaboration with the Product division is integral to shaping feature roadmaps. This position is based in Singapore on-site, with potential responsibilities spanning Europe.
Key Responsibilities
- Define evaluation science methodologies to measure AI models on metrics such as accuracy, robustness, reliability, and data quality; transform research outcomes into validated evaluation techniques compliant with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Steer the technical roadmap for the AIP evaluation engine covering multiple AI domains including computer vision, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vision-language models, and emerging agentic or embodied AI systems.
- Strategize future capabilities by understanding tested systems and end-user requirements, providing vision to Product teams on evaluation features impactful over the next 6 to 12 months.
- Lead by providing technical context: uphold rigorous engineering standards through thoughtful system design, thorough code reviews, paired programming, and hands-on coding to unblock and mentor the team.
- Maintain architectural integrity by documenting key decisions, ensuring coherence, and managing dependencies to avoid uncontrolled coupling in critical system components.
- Prioritize people management activities including regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and career growth of a multidisciplinary team of 8 to 10 engineers and scientists distributed across Singapore and Europe.
- Collaborate in recruitment to strengthen team capabilities and foster a culture of high trust, autonomy, and productivity, enabling cross-functional collaboration without excessive direct oversight.
- Manage execution by translating the product roadmap into actionable plans, scheduling deliverables, coordinating across teams, and setting standards for production-quality outcomes. This role reports to the CTO and works closely with Product for workload balancing, scoping, and resource planning to ensure on-time delivery.
Candidate Profile
- More than 7 years of professional experience developing and operating production-grade software, including leadership roles as tech lead or engineering manager.
- Substantial knowledge in machine learning, data science, or statistics with the ability to design evaluation metrics and supervise applied research and development efforts rather than solely implementing specifications.
- Proficient in Python programming for backend services and data pipelines.
- Proven leadership skills managing engineering teams, guiding architectural decisions, and enforcing engineering best practices.
- Experience in direct people management or demonstrated readiness for such responsibilities.
- Strong architectural judgment with experience in managing system coupling, leading migrations, authoring architectural decision records (ADRs), and maintaining dependency hygiene in evolving systems.
- A leadership mentality combined with hands-on development passion; committed to growing team capabilities, scaling operations, and ensuring system coherence.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, comfortable setting and being assessed against specific quarterly objectives.
Desired but Not Required
- Experience building or integrating data quality tools or evaluation frameworks in AI domains such as LLMs, RAG, agentic systems, or computer vision.
- Exposure to frontend technology stacks using TypeScript and React.
- Knowledge of data-intensive pipelines with columnar or lakehouse storage formats like Parquet or Iceberg and query engines such as DuckDB.
- Familiarity with container-based or serverless execution frameworks like Nuclio.
- Experience managing Kubernetes and Helm for production environments.
- Understanding GPU/CUDA infrastructure for scalable model inference.
- Direct involvement in platform migrations with enterprise clients where auditability, evidence retention, and backward compatibility were critical.
- Publication or applied research in AI model benchmarking, evaluation, or safety assurance.
Hiring Approach
- We value production-quality software: delivering correct, well-tested, observable, and maintainable code.
- Strong emphasis on clear communication and documentation for effective knowledge transfer and maintainability.
- Encouragement of independent problem-solving skills, from ambiguous problems to fully shipped solutions, and the ability to foster this autonomy within teams.
- T-shaped expertise: deep specialization complemented by broad skills across systems, AI, and evaluation domains.
Equal Opportunity Statement
Resaro embraces diversity and is committed to fostering an inclusive environment welcoming various cultures, backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.
