Job description
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Quality Assurance Lead oversees all software testing activities within the PMO, ensuring independent evaluation of quality across MojoPay's projects and products. This position involves defining testing strategies, managing test execution, defect tracking, and providing transparent assessments of release readiness. Additionally, the QA Lead mentors and supervises team members within the QA function.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement pragmatic quality assurance standards and testing methodologies tailored for individual projects and product releases.
- Analyze and review requirements, user workflows, and acceptance criteria to ensure testability.
- Design and perform a range of test types including functional, integration, API, system, regression, and exploratory testing as needed.
- Maintain and expand regression test coverage for vital product features and payment processes.
- Integrate automation strategically to enhance testing repeatability and efficiency.
- Manage defect lifecycle: logging, prioritization, retesting, closure, or formal deferral.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to troubleshoot and verify defect resolutions.
- Assist product and business stakeholders with user acceptance testing (UAT) scripts, tracking, and defect resolution.
- Independently assess completed testing, outstanding issues, and potential risks related to releases.
- Provide recommendations on whether software releases are ready, ready with known risks, or unsuitable for release at present.
- Escalate any critical quality concerns to the Project Manager promptly.
- Support post-release verifications for major deployments when necessary.
- Oversee and guide the QA Analyst, Test Engineer, and other QA staff within the team.
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor early-career QA Associates, managing their initial three-month engagement and advising on extensions where justified.
- Organize and maintain a pool of qualified reserve testers to handle short-term testing demands, including selection, training, supervision, and access management.
- Deliver clear and concise updates on QA status, defects, and release preparedness to the Project Manager.
- Coordinate closely with project administration personnel for scheduling, documentation, and testing activities.
- Monitor and report on essential quality metrics such as escaped defects, regression outcomes, defect reopenings, and incidents tied to releases.
Role Boundaries
The QA Lead exclusively manages quality assurance processes within the PMO and does not oversee software development, code reviews, unit testing, architecture design, CI/CD implementation, security policies, product ownership, acceptance testing, or final acceptance of production releases.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of four years’ practical experience in software quality assurance or testing, including some experience coordinating tester efforts.
- Proven expertise testing web-based, mobile, and API-driven applications.
- Comprehensive understanding of functional, integration, regression, and exploratory testing techniques.
- Knowledgeable about software delivery workflows and release cycles.
- Excellent skills in defect analysis, documentation, and retesting procedures.
- Proficient with API testing tools like Postman.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities, enabling strong collaboration with engineering, product management, and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within payments, fintech, banking, or other regulated technology sectors.
- Familiarity with e-commerce platforms and value-added service environments.
- Background in supervising junior testers or contributing to QA skill development.
- Knowledge of defect management software, basic SQL querying, and browser development tools.
- Exposure to test automation and performance testing practices.
- Possession of ISTQB certification or equivalent recognized software testing qualification.
