Job description

About Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children

Oranga Tamariki is dedicated to placing tamariki and rangatahi at the centre of its mission, upholding values such as putting tamariki first, embodying aroha, respecting mana, committing to tika and pono, valuing whakapapa, and recognizing that oranga is a journey. The ministry is focused on making New Zealand a safe and nurturing environment for children, working collaboratively with hapū, iwi, and Māori organisations to provide fitting solutions for tamariki in need.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Coordinator to play a pivotal role in the Targeted Practice Enhancements (TPE) workstream within the wider Frontline Technology Systems Upgrade (FTSU) Programme. This 12-month fixed-term contract position based in Wellington is integral to delivering both business and technical change initiatives. The role involves comprehensive coordination of delivery tasks, governance processes, planning, reporting, financial management, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement. You will be expected to anticipate needs, proactively address issues, and progress work autonomously within a complex and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide coordination support for TPE and FTSU initiatives spanning technical and business change.
  • Manage delivery schedules, RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) registers, governance documentation, action tracking, and reporting.
  • Support governance forums by preparing executive and decision support materials, monitoring actions, and ensuring follow-through on governance outcomes.
  • Handle financial administration including forecasting, purchase orders, invoicing, budget tracking, and reporting.
  • Engage actively with stakeholders and maintain strong relationship management to support project objectives.

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least five years of experience in project or programme coordination within complex environments.
  • Proven involvement in large-scale technology, digital transformation, or organisational change projects.
  • Exceptional organisational and multitasking capabilities.
  • Advanced skills in maintaining delivery plans, governance documents, and comprehensive project financial records.
  • Experience facilitating governance forums and preparing materials for executive decision-making.
  • Strong grasp of project delivery disciplines such as governance, risk management, and dependency tracking across multiple initiatives.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • The ability to work independently, take initiative, and deliver results amid complexity and rapid change.
  • Experience working on both technical and business change streams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Planner, and other collaboration tools.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to culturally responsive approaches, including awareness of te Ao Māori and Pacific perspectives.
