Process Engineer - Anaerobic Digestion

About the Role

Join SLR Consulting's Process Engineering team as an experienced Process Engineer focusing on anaerobic digestion (AD) projects. You will engage in the delivery and support of a diverse portfolio of projects involving a variety of AD technologies including wet and dry systems, biogas upgrading to biomethane, and carbon capture initiatives. Your work will primarily center in Ireland, with potential leadership opportunities across the UK, Europe, Africa, and other global locations. The position involves functioning both independently and collaboratively, offering the chance to manage projects, develop proposals, and maintain client and contractor relationships.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and support through all stages of anaerobic digestion projects.
• Critically evaluate third-party designs, technical proposals, and operational models; produce detailed technical due diligence reports for financial stakeholders.
• Develop technical and procurement documents along with schematics and drawings.
• Create models for process energy and mass balances, emissions calculations, thermodynamic assessments, and financial/operational performance metrics.
• Oversee site inspections, supervise construction, commissioning and testing phases, and troubleshoot operational challenges.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including Advisory, Environmental Management, Land and Water, and Environmental Specialist Services groups on multifaceted projects.
• Travel to client locations as required to support project activities.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will hold an engineering degree and have relevant experience with decarbonization and process engineering projects, ideally within consultancy environments. Strong communication skills, independence, teamwork ability, and proficiency with standard office IT tools are essential. Candidates should possess good organisational skills and a logical approach to problem-solving. A full, valid Irish driving licence is required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Essential: Engineering degree or related qualification.
• Experience with process engineering in consultancy contexts.
• Project management capabilities.
• Proficiency in data handling, modeling, report writing, and MS Office applications.
• Ability to work both autonomously and within teams.
• Professional communication skills and a personable demeanor.
• Full current driving licence valid in Ireland.

• Desirable: Master's degree.
• Chartered Engineer status or progression toward professional membership.
