The Real-Time Payments (RTP) platform is a cornerstone financial infrastructure deployed in various markets including the Philippines, requiring high standards of reliability, accuracy, and operational rigor.
The position of Principal Software Engineer, within the RTP Engineering & Support team, is a senior technical expert role responsible for driving the architecture, design, and operational excellence across critical payment platform services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead critical architectural and design decisions for complex platform modules impacting system stability.
- Provide expert technical leadership during significant incidents and challenging production troubleshooting scenarios.
- Enhance platform capabilities by improving performance, scalability, fault tolerance, and observability.
- Elevate team engineering quality through rigorous design and code reviews, coupled with mentorship.
- Collaborate with DevOps and Operations teams to bolster deployment safety and operational readiness.
- Shape long-term platform strategy leveraging technical credibility and sound judgment.
Qualifications and Skills
- Extensive practical experience developing and managing distributed systems with high throughput and low latency.
- A production-oriented mindset with demonstrated success resolving complex live-site technical issues.
- Comprehensive technical knowledge spanning application, messaging, and platform layers.
- Proficiency in Java and Spring framework is essential.
- Additional expertise in functional programming languages is advantageous.
- Experience in regulated or mission-critical high-availability environments.
- Ability to clearly articulate sophisticated technical concepts and influence stakeholders effectively without formal authority.
- Embodiment of Mastercard’s standards for technical excellence, personal ownership, and collaborative teamwork.
