Principal DevOps Engineer (all genders)

About the Role

As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will play a key role in defining, developing, and transforming modern IT and platform architectures. You are responsible for the technical direction of DevOps environments ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performance systems within complex project landscapes.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and enhancement of complex DevOps and platform architectures.
• Oversee architecture and management of modern cloud and container platforms, including AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, and Terraform.
• Make architecture decisions and select suitable technologies and DevOps strategies.
• Ensure code quality, system performance, security, and stability in production environments.
• Participate across the entire software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to production deployment.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to DevOps teams and engineers.
• Implement and improve CI/CD pipelines and automation strategies.
• Drive modernization and transformation of existing system landscapes.
• Ensure compliance with standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute actively to pre-sales activities and architectural concepts.
• Build and disseminate knowledge on new technologies, methods, and platforms.

Qualifications

• Completed degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent qualifications.
• More than 10 years of professional experience in the DevOps and Cloud domain.
• Fluent German or English language skills (minimum C1 level).

Required Skills

• Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, and container technologies.
• Strong proficiency with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
• Experience working with microservices architectures and API-based systems.
• Expertise in CI/CD practices, automation, and DevOps best practices.
• Background in sectors such as banking, insurance, automotive, or industrial projects.
• Preferred certifications include AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional and Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert.
