Overview
Join the Burnley Delivery Office team as a Postal Delivery Driver, working on a fixed-term contract with a rewarding hourly wage and paid overtime opportunities. This role involves delivering letters, parcels, and important items throughout the local community, serving as a vital link in people's daily lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Sorting letters and parcels at the delivery office efficiently
- Delivering mail by van and on foot across assigned local routes
- Establishing and maintaining positive customer relationships
- Working outdoors regardless of weather conditions
Work Environment and Schedule
The position requires working 35 hours weekly over several days on a rotating shift that includes weekends, with shifts typically running from 07:45 to 18:00. Delivery routes and schedules may vary depending on demand. Sunday work at the Burnley Delivery Office is expected.
Role Demands
- Physically active role; walking up to 12 miles and over 20,000 steps daily
- Daily driving of a Royal Mail van across delivery routes
- Handling large volumes of parcels and letters under time pressure, especially during busy periods
Candidate Profile
- Holds a full manual UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points, registered in current name and address
- Capable of passing a driving assessment and willing to operate a Royal Mail van
- Physically fit to walk long distances, climb stairs and hills, and lift heavy mailbags (10kg+)
- Highly reliable, self-driven, and organized with strong resilience in a fast-paced setting
- Committed to excellent customer service and comfortable working independently outdoors

Additional Information
Contract length and start dates may affect eligibility for benefits. Roles with 35-37 weekly hours are classified as full-time; however, contracts under 37 hours per week are considered part-time in official contracts. Posties are responsible for securely delivering all items, including special election materials and certain controlled products like food and alcohol, in compliance with Royal Mail standards.
