About the Role
Our partner company, based in the United Kingdom, is seeking a skilled Platform Engineer to join their remote team. This role involves building and sustaining backend systems that support a variety of mobile games, encompassing features like analytics, social components, gifting, leaderboards, LiveOps tools, and other shared platform functionalities. You will engineer production-grade Python services and RESTful APIs with cross-product integration in mind. The position blends hands-on coding with accountability for observability, deployment, and system reliability, collaborating closely with SDK engineers and other technical stakeholders to ensure robust API design and integration. Enjoy considerable autonomy in shaping platform architecture within a remote-first working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and sustain backend production services using Python, including REST APIs, data schemas, and async processing tasks.
- Create and improve platform features applicable across multiple gaming titles and products.
- Architect, implement, and maintain dependable APIs and backend architecture tailored to the needs of varied game teams.
- Establish comprehensive observability with efficient logging, metrics, and alerting mechanisms for services under your care.
- Own end-to-end lifecycle of production services, ensuring robust reliability and effective operational performance.
- Collaborate with SDK engineers to synchronize API designs, technical prerequisites, and integration workflows.
- Engage in code reviews, participate in design discussions, influence architectural choices, and help plan deliveries.
- Contribute to CI/CD systems, deployment pipelines, and broader DevOps practices.
- Develop and maintain automated testing suites as a fundamental part of development.
- Enhance the platform's reliability, scalability, and maintainability as the gaming portfolio expands.
Required Qualifications
- 2 to 4 years of hands-on backend development experience with live production systems.
- Advanced expertise in Python for backend service development.
- Demonstrated capability in designing, building, and deploying REST APIs.
- Experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases like DynamoDB or Redis.
- Proven use of AWS services such as EC2, RDS/DynamoDB, S3, SQS, IAM, and Redshift.
- Practical skills with Docker and foundational CI/CD knowledge.
- Experience with CI/CD tools like GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
- Strong commitment to testing best practices and integrating automated tests in the development lifecycle.
- Ability to take ownership of operating production systems and proactively solve reliability challenges.
- Effective communication and collaboration across diverse engineering teams.
- Active participation in technical debates, code assessments, planning, and architecture decisions.
