Job description

About the Role

This role involves accurately checking dispensed prescriptions following a clinical review by a pharmacist or performing the dispensing process when the skill mix demands it. The position supports customers by addressing their needs regarding common ailments and advising on pharmacy services while maintaining thorough adherence to procedures.

Working Hours and Availability

  • Monday: 11:00 to 20:00
  • Tuesday: 11:00 to 20:00
  • Friday: 09:00 to 17:00
  • Saturday: 09:00 to 17:00

New colleagues are guaranteed a minimum of 16 hours per week, but part-time options starting from 12 hours weekly are also available. Shift schedules are provided three weeks in advance and there is willingness to accommodate flexible availability close to these times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform accuracy checks of prescriptions following pharmacists' clinical checks, or dispense medicines when required.
  • Identify customers needing assistance and provide suitable information about ailments, symptoms, and relevant products.
  • Understand and explain product benefits tailored to customers' needs, ensuring only appropriate items are sold.
  • Advise customers about available pharmacy services and support service delivery following Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Review dispensed prescriptions for legal validity and accuracy, responding confidently to related clinical and legal queries.
  • Handle customer questions about prescription medicines and communicate complaints to the pharmacist.
  • Maintain clean and organized dispensary and consulting rooms, ensuring all procedures uphold safety, legal, and profit standards.
  • Promote company initiatives and support pharmacy targets set by management.
  • Assist in supervising and developing pharmacy team members through coaching and feedback.
  • Stay current with legal and professional pharmacy developments.
  • Maintain registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as an Accuracy Checking Technician and complete necessary training and professional development.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician or Accuracy Checking Technician with NVQ or equivalent.
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician or Accuracy Checking Technician.
  • Completion proof of a recognized training course for these technician roles.
  • Evidence of fulfilling annual Continuing Professional Development requirements.
