Pediatric Anesthesia Consultant

About the Role

We are looking for a Pediatric Anesthesia Consultant to join a prestigious tertiary healthcare institution in Saudi Arabia. This role involves providing expert anesthesia care to infants, children, and adolescents across a wide range of surgical specialties, ensuring peri-operative safety in line with global best standards.

Primary Responsibilities

• Independently administer pediatric anesthesia for diverse surgical procedures, including general and neonatal surgeries, ENT, orthopedic, ophthalmic, urological surgeries, pediatric trauma, emergency interventions, oncology, radiology, and interventional operations.
• Provide anesthesia safely for high-risk pediatric patients (ASA III–IV), managing complex airway and critical care situations.
• Lead initiatives in difficult airway management, rapid sequence induction, and emergency resuscitation.
• Offer anesthesia assistance in NICU and PICU settings, including neonatal emergencies, preoperative preparation, and post-op pain management.
• Conduct and oversee regional and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks as part of multimodal analgesia.
• Engage in multidisciplinary team discussions, peri-operative planning, and developing evidence-based clinical pathways.
• Contribute to quality improvement programs, morbidity and mortality reviews, and departmental audits.
• Support education and training of junior anesthesia staff through simulation and competency-enhancement programs.
• Ensure compliance with SCFHS, JCI, and MOH regulations on safety, documentation, and governance.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Board certification in anesthesia from recognized Western boards such as FRCA, American Board, FRCPC, CIC, FANZCA, or their equivalents.
• Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesia or considerable tertiary-level pediatric anesthesia experience of at least 2 to 3 years.
• Eligibility for SCFHS Consultant Classification.
• Expertise in neonatal and pediatric airway management, regional anesthesia, and management of high-acuity pediatric patients.
• Preferably experienced in tertiary children's hospitals or large surgical centres.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary pediatric teams.

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to pediatric cardiac anesthesia and complex airway management protocols.
• Experience with simulation-based education, pediatric pain management protocols, and sedation procedures.
• Involvement in clinical research, guideline formulation, or quality improvement initiatives.
