Payroll Specialist

Role Overview

This position involves management of outsourced payroll services and ensuring thorough review and approval of all payroll outputs, including reconciliations and reports. The Payroll Specialist will enforce compliance with Australian payroll legislation, Modern Awards, superannuation, payroll taxes, and Single Touch Payroll (STP) requirements. A key aspect of the role includes monitoring legislative developments and executing necessary updates to payroll systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage vendor relationships with outsourced payroll providers.
• Review and validate payroll data, reports, and reconciliations before approval.
• Ensure full compliance with relevant Australian payroll laws and regulations.
• Keep abreast of changes in legislation and implement corresponding payroll adjustments.
• Lead payroll tax reporting and reconciliation activities and manage end-of-year processes.
• Assist in payroll audit processes and uphold governance and compliance standards.
• Act as the primary contact for payroll queries and issue escalations.
• Collaborate with organizational stakeholders to satisfy payroll requirements.
• Identify and implement payroll process improvements to boost controls and efficiency.
• Maintain up-to-date payroll documentation, guidelines, and reporting frameworks.

Experience and Skill Requirements

• Five to ten years of experience managing Australian payroll operations.
• In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, Modern Awards, superannuation, payroll tax, and STP regulations.
• Experience either managing outsourced payroll relationships or operating within payroll governance, advisory, or specialist roles.
• Excellent skills in stakeholder engagement and communications.
• Strong analytical abilities and experience with payroll reconciliations.
• Meticulous attention to detail paired with a proactive approach to compliance management.
• A genuine interest in ongoing payroll professional development within a growing corporate environment.
