Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee full-cycle payroll management for multiple clients with varying pay schedules.
  • Act as the principal contact for clients regarding payroll inquiries, cultivating strong client relationships.
  • Enter and verify payroll data with strict adherence to current legal requirements.
  • Reconcile payroll figures and generate reports and employee payslips.
  • Prepare payroll accounting journals and conduct PAYE reconciliations.
  • Create and submit BACS payment files accurately and punctually.
  • Manage Pension Auto-Enrolment processes including compliance with The Pensions Regulator regulations.
  • Submit pension returns, handle member updates, and coordinate with pension providers.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to queries from clients, HMRC, and internal teams.
  • Stay updated on changes in payroll legislation and best practice to maintain compliance.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in a payroll bureau setting is essential.
  • Ability to manage concurrent payrolls and meet strict deadlines effectively.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll legislation including PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, and statutory payments.
  • Capability to manually calculate tax, NI, pensions, and statutory deductions when necessary.
  • Understanding of statutory family leave, SSP, salary sacrifice schemes, and auto-enrolment rules.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with confidence in client and colleague interaction.
  • Strong organizational skills and remarkable attention to detail.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and able to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with payroll software systems.
