Job description

About the Role

The Painting Inspector ensures thorough monitoring and inspection of surface preparation, coating application, and painting tasks to guarantee adherence to project requirements, international standards, client demands, and health, safety, and environmental guidelines. This position involves overseeing all painting and protective coating activities according to approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, coating specifications, and quality demands of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and inspect all on-site painting and coating operations.
  • Confirm surface preparation is adequate before coating application.
  • Assess surface cleanliness, surface texture, and environmental factors before and during the painting process.
  • Evaluate blasting and painting equipment for proper calibration and suitability.
  • Verify coating materials including batch details, shelf life, storage methods, and mixing procedures.
  • Oversee paint mixing, thinning, application techniques, and intervals between coatings.
  • Inspect each painting layer to ensure correct application and workmanship quality.
  • Measure wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT) as specified.
  • Conduct or coordinate tests such as adhesion, holiday detection, porosity, and others relevant to coatings.
  • Detect coating flaws including runs, sags, pinholes, blistering, dry spray, poor adhesion, or inadequate thickness.
  • Ensure any defects are rectified before acceptance of work.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Coating Technology or related field preferred.
  • Certifications in coating inspection strongly preferred such as AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector, BGAS-CSWIP Painting Inspector, FROSIO, or equivalent recognized internationally.
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in painting/coating inspection roles.
  • Experience within Oil & Gas, petrochemical, refinery, LNG, offshore, or industrial construction and maintenance sectors.
  • Strong expertise in surface preparation, abrasive blasting, protective coating applications, and industrial painting processes.
  • Prior collaboration experience with EPC contractors, main contractors, specialist subcontractors, and client inspection teams is favored.
