Mine Geologist Superintendent

Overview

Southern Cross Fertilisers seeks an experienced Mine Geologist Superintendent to lead the Geology team at Phosphate Hill Mine in Queensland, Australia. This leadership role involves overseeing grade control, resource management, geological services, and geotechnical supervision to support safe and efficient mining operations. Reporting to the Mining Manager, the successful candidate will optimize resource usage, assist in mine planning, and provide expert geological guidance.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct all geology and geotechnical activities onsite, including preparing annual Mineral Resource block models and JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimates.
• Plan and supervise grade control and exploration drilling initiatives ensuring data quality, cost effectiveness, and operational excellence.
• Serve as the main geological and geotechnical consultant to technical and operational teams.
• Manage relationships with external drilling, analytical, and geotechnical service providers to meet safety, quality, and budget goals.
• Maintain geological databases, resource models, and reporting systems, ensuring data integrity.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities within the geology team, supporting succession planning.
• Collaborate with mine planning, survey, operations, and processing teams to maximize resource value and align with business objectives.
• Contribute to continuous improvement strategies within geology, resource management, and mine planning areas.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• A commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performance workplace culture.
• Bachelor's degree in Science (Geology) or equivalent qualification.
• Extensive experience in open pit mining, including grade control, resource management, and drilling program oversight.
• Proven expertise in preparing JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimates.
• Strong leadership skills with experience in mentoring and team development.
• Ability to effectively build relationships and influence stakeholders across technical, operational, and contractor groups.
• Good understanding of geotechnical management principles applicable to mining operations.
• Valid Class C manual driver's license.
• High computer proficiency with software including Datamine, acQuire, SAP Business Systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Mine Site Safety Supervisor certifications (G1, G8, G9) or willingness to obtain them.

• Work schedule follows a 4 days on / 3 days off roster (Monday to Thursday) with FIFO arrangements from Townsville.
