Role Overview
The Microbiology Laboratory Manager will lead the Viatris Galway Microbiology lab, ensuring product safety and reliability by adhering to all quality standards and regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage microbial testing for pharmaceutical product release.
- Maintain the highest quality standards and apply industry best practices aligned with GLP, GMP, and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure laboratory analyses are performed safely, efficiently, and promptly with valid data generation methods.
- Validate and document all test methods used within the laboratory.
- Collaborate effectively with other department managers and directors.
- Prepare the department for internal and external audits; represent Quality Management in Microbiology and liaise with inspectors during evaluations.
- Lead and support the Microbiology team by setting goals, evaluating performance, providing feedback, coaching, and ensuring compliance with training requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as 6S and lean methodologies within the laboratory.
- Contribute to regulatory submissions and support approval processes for new products.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards within the department.
Required Experience and Knowledge
- Experience operating in an FDA and IMB regulated environment, preferably with sterile injectables.
- Aseptic processing expertise.
- Monitoring and management of microbial environments.
- Project management, resource allocation, and budgeting skills.
- Familiarity with isolator technology and environmental monitoring of pharmaceutical manufacturing settings.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Analytical, Quality, Manufacturing, and Regulatory teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline such as Microbiology or Pharmaceutical Sciences.
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience in microbiology or quality departments within pharmaceutical companies.
- Demonstrated strong leadership capabilities.
