About the Role

Glanua, a prominent leader in the water and wastewater industry, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join their Head Office in Loughrea, County Galway. This vital position involves crafting detailed and precise cost estimates for mechanical engineering projects, ensuring technical accuracy and appropriate risk evaluation throughout the tendering phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive mechanical estimates based on project drawings and specifications, accurately reflecting risks and complying with company and industry standards.
  • Participate in design development activities to assess buildability, select materials, identify innovative approaches, and optimize cost efficiency.
  • Provide early-stage pricing inputs during tendering to support option analysis and budget planning for competitive bidding.
  • Maintain rigorous adherence to risk management and governance procedures, ensuring proper documentation and authorization.
  • Contribute to tender preparation through development of scheduling programmes and detailed staff schedules informed by past project successes.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to develop supplier and subcontractor plans, negotiate terms, and solicit competitive quotations for materials and services.
  • Stay informed of current mechanical engineering technologies and industry advancements to improve estimate accuracy.
  • Create financial models for framework bids, aligning staffing rates with project budgets.
  • Utilize standardized cost coding systems for accurate cost tracking and feedback mechanisms.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • A minimum of five years' experience in mechanical estimating, preferably within water, wastewater, or construction sectors.
  • Proven ability to produce detailed and accurate mechanical cost estimates.
  • Strong analytical aptitude with keen attention to numerical detail.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles and construction methodologies.
  • Proficiency with cost estimating software and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills enabling collaborative teamwork.
  • Capability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
