Job Overview

This role involves cutting and preparing various meats according to customer specifications and company quality standards. The Meat Cutter supports daily operations in the meat and seafood departments, ensuring fresh products, proper merchandising, and consistent service that fosters customer loyalty. The position also emphasizes compliance with all food safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist customers, ensuring a positive shopping experience.
  • Cut, trim, package, wrap, weigh, and price meat and seafood products including fresh, smoked, frozen, and salted meats according to production standards.
  • Utilize peak time cutting lists to maintain efficiency and consistency.
  • Operate department-specific tools and machinery, including slicers, saws, grinders, and automatic meat wrappers.
  • Perform duties of a meat/seafood counter clerk when required.
  • Collaborate with team members promoting trust, teamwork, and effective communication.
  • Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal legal and company policies.
  • Manage inventory including restocking, rotating products for freshness, processing deliveries, and minimizing waste and shrink through proper markdowns and disposal.
  • Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in the work area, reporting any hazards promptly.
  • Uphold food safety and sanitation standards, complying with USDA, COOL, and DOA regulations.
  • Execute product recalls effectively and secure recalled items from customer access.
  • Support a culture of safety, ensuring all associates are trained in safety procedures and use personal protective equipment appropriately.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment, reporting and assisting in remediation of safety issues.
  • Carry out any additional related duties as assigned.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Authorization to work within the United States or the ability to obtain such authorization.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.
  • Strong customer service orientation and effective interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Basic math proficiency.
  • Able to work well under stress.
  • Skilled in knife handling with adequate speed and precision.
  • Knowledgeable in cutting, arranging, wrapping, and labeling meat products.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The role requires standing and walking on various flooring surfaces, manual dexterity, and repetitive hand and foot movements. Lifting and carrying up to 70 lbs regularly and pulling up to 250 lbs are required. Tasks may include sitting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing up to 10 feet. The environment includes indoor and outdoor settings with exposure to cold, freezing temperatures, wet and humid conditions, loud noises, skin irritants, hazardous cleaning agents, and the use of machinery and sharp tools. Proper personal protective equipment including goggles, gloves, cutting gloves, and back braces are mandatory.
