Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to guide our Resilience Engineering team. This role is pivotal in safeguarding the dependability of our production systems by implementing proactive validation methods like production load testing and chaos engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and promote the vision for resilience engineering, emphasizing production load testing and chaos engineering as core engineering disciplines.
- Lead, motivate, and support a team of engineers designing platforms and tools for safe production experimentation.
- Collaborate with leaders in infrastructure, product, and security to integrate resilience checks in the software development lifecycle.
- Formulate best practices for testing system limits and failure scenarios safely in production environments.
- Own the creation and improvement of platforms facilitating controlled load testing and fault injections in production.
- Implement robust safety measures like isolation, approval processes, and automated rollback to minimize user impact.
- Build comprehensive systems ensuring observability, traceability, and auditing of all resilience experiments.
- Drive reliability enhancements by identifying vulnerabilities through systematic load and chaos testing.
- Establish tailored monitoring, alerting, and incident response mechanisms for proactive resiliency verification.
- Partner closely with engineering and infrastructure teams to design, execute, and guard stress tests and chaos experiments.
- Provide reusable tools, frameworks, and standard workflows to empower teams adopting resilience practices.
- Lead cross-team initiatives to address systemic weaknesses and enhance fault tolerance.
- Promote a cultural mindset centered around preemptive failure testing within the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering groups focused on reliability, infrastructure, or distributed systems.
- Practical knowledge with production load testing, chaos engineering, or validating large-scale systems.
- Experience using chaos engineering platforms such as Gremlin or Harness.
- In-depth understanding of distributed system failure modes including latency, partial failures, and cascading outages.
- Expertise in building or running systems with safety-centric features like isolation, rate limiting, guardrails, and auditing capabilities.
- Familiarity with cloud-native technologies such as AWS and Kubernetes, alongside observability tools.
- Strong programming skills in languages like Python, Kotlin, or Java.
- Excellent analytical abilities and capability to balance long-term reliability goals with immediate operational priorities.
- Proven communication and leadership talent with experience influencing engineering best practices across teams.
