About the Role
We seek a Manager of Software Engineering to lead a team crafting innovative, AI-enhanced software solutions that empower small home service businesses like plumbers and landscapers. You'll drive technical direction, develop your team’s capabilities, and shape a platform enabling clients to efficiently quote, schedule, invoice, and collect payments while delivering excellent customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate high performance by supporting the mastery of individual skills and fostering teamwork to build exceptional products.
- Champion your team’s success through setting goals, regular one-on-ones, constructive feedback, and coaching aligned with career development.
- Contribute to hiring and onboarding, and continuously improve processes to build a world-class engineering organization.
- Establish expectations and drive daily integration of AI agents within engineering workflows, ensuring high quality outcomes.
- Eliminate obstacles and implement safeguards to sustain an environment where rapid, top-tier work thrives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product management and business technology teams to craft optimal solutions for small business customers.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven background as a software engineer coupled with substantial leadership experience guiding teams toward quality software delivery.
- Robust full-stack expertise with design and architectural experience, notably strong skills in Ruby on Rails or ReactJS.
- Determined to meet project goals on schedule, adaptable to different team contexts to enable success.
- Agile mindset capable of leading team adaptability and creative problem-solving in a changing environment.
- Hands-on experience using advanced AI agent tools beyond basic autocomplete or chat, and demonstrated leadership driving AI adoption within teams.
- Strong communication skills promoting transparency and effective coaching.
- Mentorship experience, providing constructive feedback to help employees achieve and surpass objectives.
Preferred but Not Required
- Familiarity with our technology stack: ReactJS, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, GraphQL.
- Experience maintaining system reliability outside immediate team ownership.
- Handling sensitive or critical data with a balance between fast delivery and reliability.
Location and Work Environment
While we prioritize in-person collaboration in our hubs (Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, or Kitchener-Waterloo), this role is open to fully remote candidates residing anywhere in Canada.
Compensation and Benefits
The role offers a transparent salary scale from CAD 169,200 to CAD 228,900 annually, reflecting progression from onboarding to mastery.
