Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled and commercially focused Makeup Product Manager to oversee the full lifecycle of our makeup product portfolio. The successful candidate must possess in-depth expertise in the cosmetics industry covering aspects such as makeup trends, raw ingredients, formulations, international supplier relations, manufacturing, packaging options, and sourcing landscape.
Primary Responsibilities
- Keep abreast of global and regional makeup trends, including consumer preferences, competitor introductions, ingredients, textures, color ranges, and innovative products.
- Spot new product possibilities informed by market insights, client feedback, and business potential.
- Create product ideas and seasonal makeup lines that align with the brand's strategic direction.
- Drive the makeup product development process from ideation to completion.
- Collaborate with manufacturers and labs on formulations, color options, textures, product efficacy, and claims validation.
- Review samples and formulas to ensure they meet quality and market suitability standards.
- Oversee product testing phases, approval workflows, adjustments, and final product criteria.
- Evaluate and select suitable international manufacturers, labs, suppliers, and partners.
- Maintain awareness of key production hubs and decide on the best countries and suppliers for various makeup lines.
- Assess suppliers based on quality, innovation, cost, lead times, minimum order quantities, regulatory compliance, and production capacity.
- Source and appraise raw materials, ingredients, components, and packaging alternatives matching product needs.
- Lead negotiations with external suppliers and manufacturing entities, coordinating closely with Procurement and Supply Chain departments.
- Identify and choose appropriate packaging manufacturers and suppliers for each makeup item.
- Assess packaging quality, functionality, aesthetic feasibility, expense, sustainability aspects, and compatibility with product formulations.
- Manage packaging development including samples, artwork, technical specifications, and final approval processes.
- Stay informed about global packaging innovations and emerging trends in beauty packaging.
- Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams including Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain, Marketing, Creative, Production, and Sales.
- Coordinate product development timelines, launch schedules, sourcing processes, and production requirements effectively.
- Support the Marketing team by providing detailed product features, benefits, claims, ingredient lists, and positioning against competitors.
- Track product sales data, profitability, consumer feedback, and market reception following launch.
- Analyze performance data to recommend enhancements, reformulations, packaging refreshers, or portfolio adjustments.
- Maintain comprehensive records on product development, specifications, costing, supplier details, and project deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, or related disciplines.
- Substantial background in makeup product development, management, cosmetics manufacturing, or sourcing roles.
- Profound knowledge of makeup formulations, ingredient sourcing, raw materials, packaging designs, and manufacturing workflows.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with international suppliers, manufacturers, laboratories, and packaging firms.
- Awareness of global makeup trends and developments within the beauty industry.
- Preferred experience in sourcing products and assessing manufacturing talent across global markets.
