Maintenance Person

About the Role

Westbury Court Nursing Home, part of the Country Court family located in Westbury, Wiltshire, is seeking a Maintenance Person to join our team. This home offers residential, nursing, respite, palliative, and dementia care across 60 spacious rooms along with communal amenities such as lounges, dining rooms, on-site hairdressing, and landscaped gardens. The Maintenance Person will play a key role in making sure the environment remains safe and fully compliant with health and safety legislation.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform regular upkeep tasks including painting, decorating, minor plumbing, electrical repairs, and carpentry.
• Conduct routine compliance inspections covering fire alarms, emergency lighting, water temperature, legionella control, and PAT testing, keeping detailed records.
• Carry out health and safety audits and promptly report any hazards, faults, or maintenance needs to the Home Manager.
• Respond effectively to maintenance requests from staff and management.
• Coordinate with external contractors for specialized work, ensuring compliance with safeguarding and safety protocols.
• Manage and store all tools, equipment, and materials safely.
• Maintain the building’s exterior including gardens, paths, and parking areas as necessary.
• Assist with moving furniture, room preparation, and other operational tasks as required.
• Participate in ongoing training and role-specific updates.
• Ensure all maintenance work adheres to current legislation and Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.

Candidate Profile

We seek an experienced Maintenance Person who aligns with our family values and commitment to excellent care. Essential qualities and skills include:

• Proven background in maintenance or facilities work, ideally within care or related environments.
• Competence in general plumbing, electrical repairs, painting, decorating, and DIY tasks.
• Familiarity with health and safety regulations such as COSHH, fire safety, and manual handling.
• Ability to maintain accurate compliance documentation.
• Friendly, professional demeanor with dedication to resident welfare and high standards.
• Reliable, self-driven, and capable of working independently or cooperatively within a team.
• Physically able to perform manual labor tasks.

Desirable qualifications and experiences include:

• Relevant certifications such as City & Guilds or NVQ in Building Maintenance.
• Prior work experience in a care home or healthcare setting.
• Basic understanding of legionella prevention and fire safety systems.

Additional Information

The role requires working 40 hours per week with shift times from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK as sponsorship applications are no longer accepted.
