Job description
Overview
Kuwala Christian Girls School in Malawi seeks an organised and passionate Librarian to oversee and enhance the school library. This role supports both students and staff by cultivating a resource-rich, welcoming environment that facilitates teaching, research, reading development, and lifelong learning.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage daily library operations, including the organisation, cataloguing, and upkeep of books and resources.
- Maintain accurate records of library materials and users, oversee lending processes, and manage repairs or replacements.
- Ensure the library environment remains clean, safe, quiet, and inviting for all users.
- Assist students in finding appropriate materials, nurture independent reading habits, and enhance research skills.
- Collaborate with teachers to identify and supply resources aligned with curriculum needs, while supporting academic projects and assignments.
- Keep an up-to-date catalogue and inventory, monitor resource acquisitions, and assist in library budgeting and procurement.
- Coordinate literacy programmes, reading clubs, and integrate digital information technologies where possible.
- Promote respect, responsibility, and professional conduct within the library, maintaining a safe, inclusive environment in compliance with school policies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, Education, or a similar discipline.
- Prior experience in a school library setting is advantageous.
- Knowledge of library classification, cataloguing systems, and information management.
- Basic digital literacy and ICT skills.
