Job description

Role Overview

The Kitchen Porter is essential in maintaining kitchen cleanliness while strictly following food safety regulations. All staff are required to respect residents' privacy, individuality, dignity, autonomy, and empowerment throughout their duties.

Personal Conduct and Presentation

  • Maintain a professional demeanor in all interactions and attitudes.
  • Wear the full company uniform consistently.
  • Maintain excellent personal hygiene standards.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
  • Adhere to nursing home guidelines concerning handwashing and infection control to protect self and others.
  • Comply with policies on absenteeism, lateness, and sickness.

Kitchen Duties

  • Ensure dishwashing area and equipment are clean and efficiently used.
  • Follow safe storage and handling procedures for food and cleaning supplies.
  • Comply with H.A.C.C.P standards as directed by the Head Chef, ensuring all work aligns with regulations.
  • Meet set timelines to have all crockery washed and ready for meal times.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness for all kitchen equipment.
  • Minimize waste production.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Observe infection control policies diligently.
  • Promptly attend to spillages to prevent accidents.
  • Assist with clinical waste disposal following nursing home protocols.
  • Apply trained manual handling techniques.
  • Follow fire safety and safety statement regulations.
  • Ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors in the work area.
  • Be familiar with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2005.
  • Comply with all food safety practices and health and safety policies.
  • Perform tasks only when competent to do so.
  • Assist with hygiene maintenance of dining room and catering equipment.
  • Report any equipment defects promptly.

Communication and Teamwork

  • Refer any resident welfare concerns to nursing staff.
  • Collaborate effectively within the team.
  • Participate in department meetings as required.
  • Stay informed about internal memos and management directives.
  • Attend six-monthly communication meetings.
  • Report grievances through the proper managerial channels.

Administration and Continuous Development

  • Attend mandatory and additional training sessions as required.
  • Participate in probationary meetings within the first six months.
  • Engage in six-monthly performance appraisals with line management.
  • Stay updated on nursing home policies and amendments.
  • Commit to personal development and training opportunities.
