About the Role
The National Army Museum is dedicated to connecting people with the heritage, stories, and history of New Zealand's Army. We seek a passionate and energetic individual to join our team as a Kaiārahi / Visitor Host who will enrich the visitor experience through storytelling, engagement, and support. This permanent full-time role involves a diverse mix of guided tours, event participation, visitor services, and museum support work in a culturally and historically significant environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engaging guided tours sharing the history and stories of New Zealand's Army.
- Support educational initiatives including school visits and public events.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to create memorable visits for all guests.
- Assist in maintaining the safety, security, and presentation quality of the Museum.
Working Conditions
The position requires working five days out of every seven on a rotating roster, including some weekends.
Skills and Experience
- A warm, enthusiastic, and customer-oriented approach with strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication abilities and confidence interacting with diverse visitor groups.
- A positive mindset, proactive work ethic, and eagerness to learn.
- Ability to operate both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Experience in customer service, cultural heritage, tourism, or visitor services is preferred but not mandatory.
- Comfort with using technology and adapting to new systems.
- A sincere interest in New Zealand military history and willingness to deepen knowledge in this area.
- An understanding or willingness to learn about te ao Māori, including te reo Māori and tikanga Māori, is valued.
About the Organisation
The National Army Museum Te Mata Toa preserves and presents the stories and memorabilia of New Zealand's soldiers and the development of the Army. As part of the New Zealand Defence Force, the Museum contributes to the broader goal of protecting Aotearoa and supporting community wellbeing. The institution ensures that New Zealand’s military heritage remains relevant and accessible for future generations.
Compensation
The salary for this role is between $62,075 and $68,852 per year, inclusive of a 4% superannuation contribution. Final salary placement depends on the candidate's experience and capabilities.
