Job description

About the Company

We are a global agricultural enterprise dedicated to advancing sustainable, technology-enhanced water management practices. Our focus areas include irrigation efficiency, boosting crop productivity, conserving water, maintaining infrastructure reliability, environmental responsibility, and fostering ongoing enhancements.

Role Summary

We are in search of a seasoned Irrigation Manager responsible for guiding irrigation strategy, water resource planning, system operations, maintenance, scheduling, and workforce coordination within agricultural and horticultural environments. This role will also involve budget oversight and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute irrigation plans that align with crop needs, production goals, water resource sustainability, and environmental objectives.
  • Create and manage seasonal and annual irrigation schematics based on factors such as crop type, weather trends, soil properties, and water supply.
  • Supervise irrigation activities across diverse agricultural sites including farms, plantations, orchards, greenhouses, and nurseries.
  • Develop irrigation scheduling tailored to crop growth phases and evapotranspiration demands.
  • Regularly monitor soil moisture levels, crop water stress indicators, drainage, weather conditions, and irrigation effectiveness.
  • Optimize irrigation frequency, duration, rate of application, and distribution uniformity.
  • Oversee various irrigation systems such as drip, sprinkler, center-pivot, surface, micro-irrigation, and fertigation.
  • Manage operational components including pumps, wells, reservoirs, pipelines, valves, filters, pressure control systems, meters, tanks, and control devices.
  • Keep track of water pressure, flow metrics, system uniformity, and distribution efficiency.
  • Perform routine inspections to detect leaks, clogs, pressure drops, equipment malfunctions, and infrastructure damage.
  • Establish preventative maintenance schedules and coordinate repair, replacement, upgrades, and emergency fixes.
  • Regulate water source availability, storage capacity, pumping needs, and distribution logistics.
  • Assess water quality factors such as salinity, pH balance, sediments, and contaminants affecting irrigation.
  • Direct filtration, treatment, flushing, and cleaning procedures for irrigation systems.
  • Design and implement fertigation programs ensuring precise fertilizer injection and uniform nutrient distribution.
  • Collaborate closely with agronomists, horticulturists, farm managers, and crop specialists to synchronize irrigation with production requirements.
  • Analyze irrigation data to identify inefficiencies, water losses, and areas for enhancement.
  • Integrate automation, precision irrigation, and smart technologies including weather stations, soil moisture sensors, flow meters, GIS, remote monitoring, and control systems.
  • Develop water conservation initiatives with measurable usage targets and address abnormal consumption proactively.
  • Lead, schedule, and train irrigation workforce including technicians, operators, contractors, and service providers.
  • Manage irrigation-related budgets, forecast equipment needs, handle procurement, and assess supplier quality and costs.
  • Oversee irrigation infrastructure projects such as expansions, system upgrades, and installations ensuring compliance with design and operational standards.
  • Maintain detailed infrastructure records, irrigation maps, water usage logs, maintenance histories, and system documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental, agricultural, safety, and operational laws and standards.
  • Coordinate with authorities on water allocation and develop contingency plans for emergencies like droughts, equipment failures, and extreme weather events.
  • Generate comprehensive reports on water consumption, irrigation efficiency, maintenance activities, costs, risks, and improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts aimed at enhancing irrigation reliability, water use efficiency, automation, and lowering operational expenses.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Efficiency of water usage
  • Water consumption metrics per hectare and per crop unit
  • Irrigation application effectiveness and distribution uniformity
  • Compliance with irrigation schedules and soil moisture requirements
  • System uptime, pump efficiency, infrastructure reliability, and leakage minimization
  • Preventive maintenance completion and response times
  • Energy consumption relative to water delivery
  • Fertigation precision and water quality compliance
  • Equipment utilization and cost control
  • Project delivery timelines, contractor evaluations, safety records, and regulatory adherence
  • Adherence to budgets and water-use forecasting accuracy
  • Crop yield responsiveness to irrigation and sustainability metrics
  • Resource savings through continuous improvements

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Proven expertise in irrigation management, agricultural water systems, irrigation engineering, horticulture, agronomy, or related fields, ideally within large-scale farming, plantations, greenhouses, or landscaping sectors.
  • Extensive knowledge of various irrigation technologies including drip, sprinkler, micro-irrigation, center-pivot, fertigation, and automated systems.
  • Strong understanding of soil-water dynamics, evapotranspiration, crop water needs, and schedule planning.
  • Hands-on experience managing hydraulic components like pumps, pipelines, filters, valves, reservoirs, meters, and sensor-based control systems.
  • Competency in irrigation system maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, and optimization.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage contractors and suppliers, and oversee technical service provisions.
  • Solid skills in budgeting, procurement, project management, and cost efficiency.
  • Data-driven analytical skills for water use, system performance, environment, and production assessments.
  • Familiarity with precision agriculture technologies such as remote monitoring, automation, GIS, telemetry, and smart irrigation platforms.
  • Committed to water conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable resource management.
  • Knowledgeable about workplace safety and relevant agricultural and water regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, communicative, and problem-solving abilities with fluency in English.
  • Ability to handle emergencies related to water infrastructure, power outages, or adverse weather.
  • A pragmatic approach focused on sustainability and continuous process improvement.
