Job description
About the Role
We are looking for a highly creative Interactive Drama Designer to craft engaging dramatic experiences that allow audiences to actively participate in storytelling. This role involves designing interactive narratives blending drama, character arcs, dialogue, audience-driven choices, and emerging tech to create evolving storylines based on user decisions.
This interdisciplinary position collaborates closely with a range of experts including writers, narrative designers, AI specialists, actors, voice talent, game designers, XR developers, and creative technologists. The primary goal is to reimagine traditional dramatic storytelling into dynamic participatory experiences across diverse digital platforms, such as virtual worlds, AI-driven characters, games, and immersive media.
Key Responsibilities
- Create interactive dramatic concepts, narrative frameworks, and experience designs optimized for digital and immersive settings.
- Develop story arcs, scenes, dialogue, character dynamics, and interactive moments.
- Construct branching narratives where user choices significantly affect relationships, conflicts, events, and endings.
- Design dramatic systems supporting nonlinear, evolving story structures rather than fixed linear ones.
- Build multi-dimensional characters with defined motives, emotional layers, objectives, conflicts, and relational dynamics.
- Conceptualize user-character interactions to evoke tension, empathy, surprise, conflict, and emotional resonance.
- Develop dialogue trees, branching conversations, interactive scenes, and decision-driven narrative sequences.
- Collaborate with creative teams to translate dramatic ideas into coherent interactive story systems.
- Partner with AI and conversational technology experts to create characters capable of improvisational, context-aware dramatic exchanges.
- Ensure AI-driven characters respond naturally to user input while maintaining narrative coherence and character consistency.
- Work alongside actors, voice artists, and animators to deliver authentic character performances.
- Integrate dramatic experiences seamlessly with game design, XR, and immersive technology developers.
- Generate comprehensive narrative documentation including story bibles, relationship maps, timelines, and interactive scene specs.
- Prototype and test interactive scenes, narrative pathways, character behaviors, and user choices.
- Evaluate user engagement, emotional impact, narrative flow, and replay value of the interactive dramas.
- Analyze audience feedback and behavior to refine story structures and pacing.
- Innovate by exploring new forms of AI-assisted, immersive, and participatory drama beyond traditional storytelling methods.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Dramatic Arts, Theatre, Screenwriting, Creative Writing, Film, Narrative Design, Game Design, Interactive Media, Digital Arts, or related disciplines; equivalent professional experience accepted.
- Between 3 to 5 years’ experience in drama, screenwriting, narrative design, game writing, immersive theatre, or interactive storytelling domains.
- Proven skills in crafting dramatic narratives, interactive stories, branching scenarios, or character-centric experiences.
- In-depth knowledge of dramatic structures, character development, dialogue, conflict, and pacing tailored for emotional storytelling.
- Expertise in designing interactive narratives where audience decisions fundamentally influence the story progression.
- Familiarity with non-linear storytelling, choice-based narratives, branching dialogue trees, and interactive scene design.
- Experience with generative AI, conversational AI, adaptive narrative systems, AI characters, or virtual humans is advantageous.
- Understanding of acting techniques, directing, voice performance, body language, and character portrayal is a plus.
- Background working with games, XR, virtual environments, immersive theatre, or real-time interactive platforms is preferred.
- Strong collaboration skills, able to work effectively with artists, developers, AI specialists, and other creative technologists.
- Excellent communication, creative vision, writing skills, and problem-solving capability.
- Ability to balance artistic integrity with technical feasibility and optimize user experience.
- Fluent in English; additional languages are beneficial.
- Portfolio showcasing relevant projects in drama, narrative design, interactive storytelling, immersive experiences, or game narratives is required.
Opportunities and Benefits
- Engage in shaping the future of interactive, AI-powered dramatic arts.
- Join a multidisciplinary environment combining theatre, storytelling, immersive media, AI, and gaming.
- Create unique dramatic worlds, characters, and interactive experiences for global audiences.
- Collaborate with a diverse team including writers, performance artists, technologists, and animators.
- Competitive salary and access to resources for experimental and innovative creative projects.
- Chance to explore new storytelling genres and AI-assisted performance methods.
- Professional growth and roles in developing original intellectual properties and narrative universes.

Interested candidates should submit the following:
- A concise CV (maximum 2 pages)

- A portfolio or links to at least 3 projects highlighting interactive storytelling, dramatic writing, branching narratives, immersive theatre, or related work
