About Technology Innovation Institute
The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, is a government-supported research institute drawing together an international cadre of scientists, engineers, and researchers dedicated to advancing society through pioneering research and technological prototypes.
Role Overview
This position is within the Robotics Research Center at TII, focusing on integrating multiple technological elements to advance civil aerial robotics projects. The role entails merging outputs from various research groups to develop operational prototypes that can be applied in practical real-world contexts. Candidates passionate about transforming innovative aerial robotics concepts into effective, deployable systems will find this opportunity well-suited.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage autopilot systems: configure, sustain, and optimize autopilots across multiple drone platforms to ensure peak operational performance.
- Integrate mission payloads: install, set up, and validate a range of payloads such as imaging sensors (RGB, multispectral, thermal), sensing units (LiDAR, SAR, environmental), and actuation components (sprayers, seeders, custom devices) aligned with mission requirements.
- Autonomy and mission systems: customize and implement autonomy modules and SDK-driven platforms to facilitate automated mission execution.
Qualifications and Skills
- At least two years of relevant experience in UAV integration, flight control, or related areas.
- Practical expertise with autopilot software suites including PX4, ArduPilot, DJI SDKs or equivalents, as well as simulation and middleware tools like Gazebo and ROS2.
- Proficient programming skills in C, C++, and Python for embedded systems development, integration tasks, and scripting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of UAV systems including diverse autopilot hardware, payload configurations, and communication standards.
- Strong abilities in debugging software and hardware, simulating flight environments, and handling integrated flight control systems.
- Flight operation experience with an official pilot license is an advantageous asset.
Educational Background
Applicants should possess a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely associated discipline.
