Job description

About the Role

Become a key member of a seasoned research and development team at NXP Semiconductors, focused on creating cutting-edge Intellectual Property (IP) for next-generation microcontrollers and microprocessors. This team develops networking switch and network controller IP cores (NETC) that comply with the most recent Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) standards and serve as the networking backbone of NXP's newest microcontrollers, processors, and switches. The technologies you contribute to are part of products generating billions annually and are likely embedded in automobiles, smart home devices, and industrial manufacturing equipment worldwide.

As part of the AI and Chip Engineering (ACE) unit, a central design organization at NXP, you will help produce innovative hardware solutions covering architecture, IP, and full system-on-chip (SoC) designs for automotive, IoT, networking, and RF applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, architect, implement, and verify advanced Ethernet and networking IP integrated into upcoming SoCs tailored for automotive, industrial, and edge computing environments.
  • Lead the architecture, design, and execution of UVM-based verification environments for hardware IP and SoC projects.
  • Conduct performance-complexity trade-off analyses to optimize designs.
  • Collaborate closely with IP architects, designers, and verification engineers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality IP modules.
  • Create comprehensive documentation including functional and implementation specifications across all project phases.
  • Develop both directed and randomized verification test cases.
  • Investigate test failures, diagnose root causes, and work jointly with engineering teams to resolve defects and enhance quality.
  • Monitor functional and code coverage metrics, refining or augmenting tests as necessary to satisfy coverage targets.
  • Drive ongoing improvements in both design and verification methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working on IP and SoC product development.
  • Deep proficiency with SystemVerilog and UVM verification methodologies.
  • Strong familiarity with IP and SoC design flows, alongside expertise with verification tools.
  • Hands-on experience using electronic design automation (EDA) tools and scripting languages such as Python, TCL, Perl, Makefile, and Shell for developing verification flows.
  • Experience architecting and carrying out comprehensive design verification cycles and infrastructure development.
  • Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Awareness of hardware versus software implementation trade-offs and their impact on design.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Background in algorithm development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and technical documentation abilities.
  • Effective and collaborative team player.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related disciplines.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with formal verification and functional safety verification processes.
  • Understanding of current networking standards and TCP/IP protocol stacks.
  • Familiarity with networking hardware such as routers, bridges, and switches.
  • Knowledge or experience in security and cryptographic applications.
