Role Summary

As a Hydrology, Stormwater & Flooding Engineer based in Christchurch or Wellington—and other company locations considered—you will engage in planning, analysing, and designing hydrology, stormwater, and flood management systems across various infrastructure and advisory projects. Collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and growth of technical expertise and professional judgement are key components of this role.

Key Duties

  • Support diverse infrastructure and advisory projects through planning, investigation, modelling, and design stages.
  • Perform hydrological and hydraulic analyses, including catchment modelling and flood risk assessments.
  • Contribute to developing stormwater solutions, flood risk evaluations, and integrated water management strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong business relationships with clients to achieve project goals and ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Prepare thorough and high-quality reports, correspondence, and project deliverables.
  • Engage in office and fieldwork activities, collaborating virtually with national and international teams.
  • Offer guidance and mentorship to graduate engineers involved in design projects.

Candidate Profile

You are a developing engineer with a strong technical base eager to expand your knowledge in hydrology and water engineering. You approach work with curiosity, teamwork, responsibility, and a motivation to generate beneficial environmental and community outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of four years’ experience in hydrology, stormwater, or flood modelling within consulting or infrastructure sectors.
  • Proficiency with hydrological and hydraulic modelling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks, Tuflow, or equivalents.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand’s regulations, standards, and guidelines pertinent to stormwater and flooding management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently for oneself and potentially others, meeting deadlines consistently.
  • Self-driven, proactive, energetic, and exhibits a flexible approach to challenges.

Work Environment
