Position Overview

The Hotel Room Housekeeper is responsible for cleaning, restocking, and maintaining the cleanliness of assigned hotel rooms in accordance with established hotel policies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtain a list of rooms assigned for cleaning from the manager and prioritize those needing early attention.
  • Check cleaning cart inventory before starting and replenish supplies as required.
  • Properly maintain all cleaning equipment assigned.
  • Knock and announce presence before entering rooms; return later if rooms are occupied.
  • Remove used linens, towels, bedspreads, and blankets, replacing them with fresh ones.
  • Make beds neatly and replenish towels, washcloths, and hand towels as per hotel standards.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms, kitchenettes, or coffee-preparation areas following hotel guidelines.
  • Wipe down all room surfaces and clean mirrors thoroughly.
  • Vacuum floors and dispose of trash appropriately.
  • Check and restock complimentary coffee, snacks, and toiletry supplies according to hotel checklists.
  • Perform a final inspection to ensure rooms meet hotel quality standards.
  • Notify supervisor when rooms are ready and report any suspicious activities to security.
  • Ensure all soiled linens are laundered; assist with loading washers and dryers and folding linens when needed.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the maintenance department.
  • Turn found items over to the lost and found department if guests have checked out.
  • Carry out additional assigned duties as necessary.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
  • Ability to maintain guest privacy and discretion at all times.
  • Consistency in delivering work to the highest standards.
  • Friendly and pleasant interaction with guests.
  • Basic education and literacy sufficient to read labels and communicate regarding job needs.
  • Preferred ability to understand, speak, read, and write basic English.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Prolonged standing, walking, and frequent bending, pulling, or pushing movements.
  • Capability to lift up to 15 pounds as necessary.
  • Willingness to work a rotating schedule including a seven-day work cycle with occasional afternoon shifts.
  • Potential exposure to risks such as slips, trips, falls, dirt, humidity, temperature extremes, frequent hand immersion in water, and use of harsh sanitation chemicals.
