Overview

The General Manager position entails comprehensive oversight of hotel operations, guiding daily staff activities and maintaining superior guest relations. As the face of the hotel and its brand, the role demands delivering strategic leadership across all departments to promote service excellence, operational efficiency, and high guest satisfaction. Collaboration with hotel ownership and stakeholders is a key aspect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise hotel operations consistent with the established organizational hierarchy.
  • Hold frequent meetings with department heads to ensure alignment and communication.
  • Maintain adherence to operational standards, policies, and service procedures.
  • Lead major projects including renovations, capital investments, and service enhancements.
  • Handle guest complaints and manage effective resolution processes.
  • Develop, present, and strive to meet targets within annual Operating, Marketing & Sales, and Capital budgets.
  • Drive profitability goals while ensuring exceptional guest experiences.
  • Make strategic choices benefiting the hotel and its stakeholders.
  • Set and achieve both short- and long-term strategic and budget objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational improvements.
  • Analyze financial statements to guide data-informed decisions.
  • Evaluate daily reports and adjust operations accordingly.
  • Confirm accurate and on-target monthly financial forecasts across departments such as Rooms, Food & Beverage, and Administration.
  • Enhance room revenue and occupancy through innovative sales and yield management.
  • Generate monthly financial reporting for ownership and stakeholders.
  • Participate actively in budgeting and financial planning cycles.
  • Support procurement activities for supplies, equipment, and external service providers.
  • Hold final authority on hiring critical staff openings.
  • Work closely with department heads to ensure smooth hotel operations.
  • Mentor and develop department leaders to foster their professional growth.
  • Take responsibility for resolving guest complaints satisfactorily.
  • Provide commanding leadership for all hotel functions.
  • Lead business planning and operational quality initiatives.
  • Effectively respond to audits, promoting ongoing improvement.
  • Support corporate client relations and assist sales efforts in client acquisition.
  • Engage in residential sales efforts in promising market areas when necessary.
  • Ensure complete compliance with relevant safety, legal, fire, and health standards.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an experienced, proactive hotel industry leader exhibiting excellent management skills and adaptability, with willingness to work during weekends, holidays, and evenings as required.

A university degree in Hotel Management or a similar field is required. Experience in hotel openings, repositioning, or management roles with proven success is preferred. Proficiency in hotel management systems is necessary.

Experience Requirements

  • 15 to 20 years within the hospitality sector, including substantial involvement in luxury and international settings.
  • 5 to 10 years in a senior leadership capacity such as General Manager or Deputy General Manager, including experience with remote or destination properties.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of cash register and money handling procedures.
  • Proficiency using POS systems.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with inventory management processes.
