General Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a skilled General Maintenance Technician for a contract role based in Essex, supporting multiple retail stores of a major UK supermarket client. The role involves providing mobile maintenance services, conducting routine visits and attending to both planned and urgent repair needs to maintain store safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Uphold company values and standards by representing the organisation professionally, adhering to policies, and participating in necessary training sessions.
• Conduct minor building fabric and housekeeping repairs including carpentry, painting, plumbing, fixing floors, walls, doors, toilets, fitting rooms, and other facility upkeep tasks with a focus on safety and quality.
• Execute planned preventative maintenance and respond to reactive maintenance requests within set deadlines, ensuring all documentation is properly maintained.
• Respond quickly and accurately to helpdesk requests, assessing and resolving issues within scope or escalating complex problems appropriately.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in good working condition to support efficient task completion.
• Establish and sustain effective communication with store management during visits, keeping them fully informed about schedules, progress updates, and next steps while fostering strong working relationships across up to 15 assigned locations.

Qualifications and Experience

• NVQ or City & Guilds certification in a relevant trade with multi-trade experience in facilities management, retail, or public buildings.
• Possession of a valid UK driving licence.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices.
• The capability to perform diverse fabric and grounds maintenance tasks such as repairing floors, walls, doors, toilets, fixtures, and completing general housekeeping duties.
• Proficiency in using iPads or similar technology for logging work orders and accessing maintenance systems.
• A commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship with attention to detail and pride in the work performed.
