Position Overview
The Flagger II plays a crucial role in managing traffic flow safely around construction and maintenance zones. Responsibilities include arranging and removing traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and barricades to protect workers and the public. The individual uses hand signals and signage to guide motorists safely through or around active work areas. This role demands keen attention to detail, endurance to stand for extended periods, and the ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy and arrange signs, cones, barricades, and traffic control devices to redirect traffic effectively around work zones.
- Utilize stop/slow paddles to coordinate the flow of vehicles safely.
- Maintain efficient communication with crew members through two-way radios.
- Stand, walk, and reach continuously for up to 10 hours during shifts.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver objects exceeding 50 pounds when needed.
- Operate company vehicles to transport traffic control equipment to and from job locations.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks to ensure operational safety and readiness.
- Work regularly in outdoor environments exposed to varying weather, machinery, moving vehicles, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Adapt to a work environment where noise levels range from moderate to loud.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols diligently.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possession of a valid Driver's License is mandatory.
- Successful completion of a background screening including motor vehicle record verification.
- Completion of a drug test and compliance with all federal Department of Transportation regulations.
- Use of proper safety gear such as work boots with safety toes, hard hats, safety glasses, and vests is required.
- Proficiency operating two-way radios for communication.
- Ability and willingness to operate in various weather conditions and dynamic traffic situations.
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with contractors and internal teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality customer service.
- Capability to collaborate effectively within team environments.
- Exemplary attendance, dependable transportation, and a committed work ethic are essential.
- Completion of the ATSSA Flagger training and company-provided Defensive Driver training courses.
- Flexibility to travel across the state with occasional overnight stays, including the capacity to work nights and weekends according to project needs.
- Availability for a rotating on-call schedule is required.
